Happy National Sloppy Joe Day! Haha…I didn’t even know there was a special day set aside for Sloppy Joe’s, but I was perusing through the National Day Calendar and came across it by surprise.
They don’t know the exact origin of the day, but it is suggested that Sloppy Joe’s came to the US around 1927 from Havana, Cuba. And they were served much differently back then!
In fact, they were said to be made of cow tongue and ham! And they didn’t even have the red sauce on them (a true travesty!).
Thankfully, things changed and most of us know Sloppy Joe’s as the ground beef in a sweet and spicy red sauce.
My kiddos love Sloppy Joe’s and have begged for them at least once a week since they were little!
But, after eating our standard meal of Sloppy Joe sauce over Kaiser rolls with a side of french fries, about 10,000 times, I started to play around and add the sauce to different recipes. And not surprisingly, Sloppy Joe’s are pretty well good with everything!
So, since it’s a day to celebrate Sloppy Joe’s, I thought it’d be fun to throw together a little round-up of our favorite Sloppy Joe recipes for you.
