My Christmas Plans

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I know we did. We definitely ate too much, but otherwise spent a nice, relaxing day with the family.

Of course, now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to move onto Christmas. And it’s in full force around here!

I’d like to make Christmas really special this year. Because of our late in the year move, last year, we didn’t do a whole lot of decorating or baking and it really seemed like the holiday was cut short. So, this year, I’m getting kind of elaborate. And I don’t mean a crazy amount of silly gifts.

We spent Saturday and Sunday decorating the inside of the house and it’s close to looking like Santa’s workshop. But, we’ve still got a lot to do outside.

We’re attempting to create a candy land sort of theme outside this year. I don’t know how elaborate we’ll get, but so far, we’ve made a dozen different candies and lollipops to decorate the house. We also put out the blow up snowman and our light up teddy bear. Check out my Christmas Decorating Ideas on Pinterest, I’ve been saving tons of ideas!

We’re doing more decorating than usual and we’re making some homemade gifts. And I hope to do a lot of baking with the girls, because everyone in my family loves homemade baked goods, especially at this time of year.

Christmas day is celebrated at our house and part of both, my family and my husband’s family come here. We also have a “day after Christmas” celebration with part of the family that can’t make it on Christmas day.

While they are both a lot of fun, it’s also a lot of work to plan two back to back parties during the holiday season. And even though, I’ll be going crazy on the 24th and terrifying anyone that comes near me, I secretively love it. The planning, the organizing, the prepping…I love it all.

Speaking of planning, our Christmas dinner menu varies only slightly from year to year. The basics are always the same {Turkey, Stuffing and Mashed Potatoes}. But, each year we switch things up by trying a few new recipes for appetizers, sides and desserts.

This is what our menu looks like for this year, so far…

Cheese & Crackers

Nacho Dip

Shrimp Dip

Turkey (Deep Fried)

Mashed Potatoes

Sunshine Carrots

Candied Brussels Sprouts

Broccoli Casserole

Dinner Rolls

Pumpkin Pie (Of Course!)

Apple Crumb Pie

Cookies (lots of cookies!)

I’m sure I’ll change and/or add several things before the big day(s) actually come. But, for now that’s the basic menu. I’ll be sharing some of the recipes as the month goes on.

What about you? What are your holiday plans and what’s your favorite part?

Have a Spectacular Day!
