Cinnamon Apple Sauce Ornaments

The theme this year for the holidays has been handcrafted and homemade! So the other evening we spent some time making cinnamon apple sauce ornaments.

With only three ingredients they could not have been easier to put together and they made the entire house smell divine!

Lets pull out the ingredients and walk you through it! I think like us, you might add this to your holiday check list every year.

You will need cinnamon, apple sauce and craft glue! Yes….that is it! The measurements are just as easy and steps are just as easy!

You Will Need:

  • 1 cup ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons white craft glue
  • optional, other spices like nutmeg or ground clove

Step one:

Preheat your oven to 200° F.

Mix together cinnamon, applesauce and craft glue. Adjust measurements if needed. You will want the consistency to be similar to a sugar cookie dough. Smooth but not too sticky. Be sure all of the cinnamon is evenly mixed in.

Step two:

Knead the dough well. Form your dough into a ball. Lay down a piece of parchment paper and sprinkle with cinnamon, place dough ball on top and then another sheet of parchment paper on top of dough ball. Use rolling pin to flatten dough to about 1/4 inch thick.

Step three:

Remove top parchment paper. Use cookie cutters to cut out your ornament shapes. Use a straw to punch a hole large enough for the twine or ribbon to go through after baking.

Step four:

Bake in oven for 1-2 hours or until they have firmed enough to hang and last.

*You can opt out of the baking process. If you leave the ornaments out for 24-48 hours they will dry and harden enough to use.

*If the dough seems to be too wet to cut you can place it in the refrigerator for an hour prior to cutting out your shapes with cookie cutters

These project is a great project to do with any aged kiddo. You can also whip up a batch of these to make a garland, or to use as added gift wrapping jazz.

They will leave a beautiful cinnamon scent in whatever room you add them to.
