Family camping trip number 2 in the books! This time we visited Silver Lake State Park Campground. If you hadn’t had the chance to read my first family camping review check it out!
What a difference in weather, set up and experience than our first. I’m really excited to tell you about this GEM of a campground. We loved it so much that we decided this will be an annual trip for our family.
The good old fashion accommodations had us so excited. It is a wonderful place for families to spend some time camping or just visiting!
Family Camping Review #2 – Silver Lake State Park Campground
Location: Barnard, VT
We really enjoy staying at state park campgrounds. There is a certain level of pride and respect evident everywhere that you look.
The campgrounds are so well kept both clean and nature is respected. It is usually a more relaxed feel throughout and wonderful for families, especially with younger children.
The amenities are simple but exactly what you could need. We also really enjoy that most sites in state park campgrounds are wooded and somewhat private!
Silver Lake State Park campground had some of the largest, well kept and private sites we have seen here in the state of VT! Plus….the extras! We will get into that soon. But, first lets talk about all the small things that help make your camping experience more enjoyable and easygoing!
The Sites – Silver Lake State Park Campground
We always do a good walk around and through the campground to check out all of the sites and what they can offer for future camping dates! I have to be honest, this campground made it extra hard to narrow down our top choices! All of the sites were so lovely!
In the campground there are 39 tent/rv sites and 7 lean-to’s. There are no hook ups at this campground so be prepared to boondock. There is a sanitary station for filling and dumping though!
Amenities – Silver Lake State Park Campground
There are also two bathrooms with coin operated showers that are well kept.
Throughout the campground are water spigots that you can utilize with fresh drinking water to fill bottles and buckets to bring back to your campsite to use for whatever cooking, drinking or washing needs!
They are conveniently located throughout the campground so not matter what site you end up at you can access one close by. With no hook ups on the sites these water stations were crucial to have for our camping weekend. We were continuously filling jugs to a multitude of purposes back on site!
The Recreation Area – Silver Lake State Park Campground
It’s pretty evident that we really enjoyed our stay here. I have boasted about the campground and sites, cleanliness and care. Would you believe me if I said I hadn’t even got to the good part yet?
Enjoying the beach and recreation area of Silver Lake State Park Campground was one of the best parts of our weekend!
Not only is the there a nice gradual beach and swimming area but also docks that you can go off into deeper swimming parts.
They also have boat rentals including kayaks and paddle boats, a snack bar concession area with snacks and drinks, a new and large playground area and even a separate fishing and picnic area with charcoal grills.
We enjoyed hours of fishing over in the private area to cast lines and then cooled off by taking a dip in the water. Throughout the weekend we walked down to let the kids run wild and burn off energy on the playground. We got periods of heavy rain so after being cooped up in the camper with board and card games this helped us all!
Other Perks
You are just one minute from the Barnard General Store which has all of the daily essentials, lots of history and also a lovely deli! They offer fresh baked goods, meats and seafood, ice cream during season and a variety of breakfast and lunch options.
If you are looking for something more you can drive 12 minutes into the town of Bethel where you can find gas stations, various restaurants and pizza shops, a hardware store and more! Just a bit further in Randolph is a Shaws supermarket and drug stores. So, all you could ask for just a stone throw away! Don’t stress if you’ve forgotten something. You can relax in this tiny quaint paradise all the while you have means to stock up just next door!
