How To Make Herbal Salt

I am going to walk you through how to make herbal salt today! 

To be honest, this is salt brought to it’s ultimate and most beautiful level. I try to have a batch in my pantry at all times. The flavors are out of this world!

It is also a great way to use up some of your herbs if you have an abundance growing. 

I try to have a rotation of growing herbs from outdoors to indoors during the colder months here in Vermont. There is nothing quite like fresh herbs in a recipe. It can completely transform your meal from average to gourmet!

This herbal salt is similar. It is just a beautiful addition to such a wide array of recipes. 

How To Make Herbal Salt

To fill 1-2,  4 oz. spice jars.

  • 1/2 cup coarse sea salt
  • 1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/3 cup fresh sage, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, chopped


  1. Wash and chop all of your ingredients. Then, combine in a large bowl.
  2. Preheat your oven to 200° Fahrenheit. 
  3. Lay a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
  4. Spread your salt and herb mix evenly on paper.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  6. Transfer mix to a blender to blend down into a finer salt mixture.
  7. Store in a sealed container and enjoy for several months!

You can modify the ingredients however you’d like! If you prefer the taste of one herb over another….add more! You can also do whatever herb blends are most intriguing or most useful for your cooking.

If you’d like to add in notes of citrus try adding some chopped citrus peels! 

Add this salt to the top of any type of protein, use it on fresh baked bread with butter or more.
