Sick of spending all your money on food? I know I am! I’m always try to save money on groceries. It’s by far the biggest category in most budgets, including mine, but honestly, I hate using coupons. Clipping coupons is such a hassle and it takes forever!
Thanks to all the extreme couponing shows, most grocery stores have changed the rules on using them and clipping coupons doesn’t provide quite the savings that it used to. Instead it’s up to you to figure out different ways to save money on groceries. But, don’t worry – I’ve learned lots of tricks over the years and below I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite ways to save money on groceries without using coupons.
So, let’s get started, shall we?
6 Ways to Save Money on Groceries Without Using Coupons
Buy in Bulk
Shopping at warehouse stores, like Sam’s Club, Costco or even Amazon.com, is a great way to save money on groceries for two reasons. One – you receive a discount on the total unit price. And two – when you spend less time in the grocery store, you’ll spend less money on impulse buys. It’s a win-win!
Cook Larger Meals
Another advantage of shopping in bulk is having lots of ingredients on hand. Instead of cooking small meals with no leftovers, make large dinners, like Lasagna, Chicken & Biscuits or Sloppy Joe Goulash. Freeze or refrigerate what you don’t eat and take it out later in the week. Not only do you save money but you’ll be giving yourself a night off from cooking, too!
Make Your Own Mixes
Packaged mixes are expensive, not to mention the chemicals and preservatives that are added to them. But, here’s the thing – you can make your own pancake mix, brownie mix, cookie mix and then some! They taste so much better and making your own mixes is so much cheaper, too!
Stop taking the kids or your husband to the grocery store with you! When you take the whole family along you’re sure to pick up more than one extra thing, but about a thousand extra things. Shop alone and stick to your list!
Shop the Perimeter
The middle of the store is where they suck you in and get you to spend all your hard earned money on junk food that you don’t need. Make your own junk food instead. Stay on the outside ring of the store. It’s where you’ll find the produce, meat and dairy items, which are healthier for you and for your wallet, too.
Shop the Sales
Pick up the Sunday newspaper to get the sales flyers or better yet, don’t waste your money – head into the grocery store on Saturday and ask for next week’s circular instead, it’s free. If you can’t get to the store, check out Living Rich with Coupons, they have most sales flyers on the website. Make a list and shop directly from the store flyer.
I hope these tips help you save a ton of money on your groceries and save some time, too!
