Need a little tune up?

Maybe you were never taught how to make pie crust…it’s not as if everyone knows how to make it at home.

Or maybe you’ve been too afraid to learn in the first place…

I mean, Pillsbury has been providing us with the easy store-bought roll-up version for a very long time. So, why bother, right?

Well, stop being afraid and don’t worry if you’ve never made pie crust successfully in the past! Pie crust is NOT hard to make, in fact it’s super simple if you follow the directions below…

Super Simple Pie Crust

Supplies Needed:


  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  •  1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter flavored shortening
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons cold water

Step One

Pour flour into a large mixing bowl.


Step Two

Add salt to the flour and gently stir to combine.


Step Three

Scoop shortening into the bowl.


Step Four

Stir on medium-low speed until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.


Step Five

Continue mixing, while adding cold water, one tablespoon at a time.


Step Six

Continue mixing until the dough resembles thick mashed potatoes.


Step Seven

Remove the dough from the bowl. Place on a sheet of wax paper and form a ball.


Step Eight

Place a second sheet of wax paper over the top of the dough.


Step Nine

Use a rolling pin to roll the dough into a large circle, about 1/8 inch thick.


Step Ten

Place the pie crust into a standard sized pie plate.


Step Eleven

Roll the excess dough, inward toward the center and pinch down, using two fingers to create a rippled edge.


Now, just fill the crust with your favorite pie filling and bake as directed on your recipe.
